Location:

UC/Davis Extension, 2901 K Street, Room 202, Sacramento, CA

Presentation:

" Preparing for SQL 2005, Today "

Developers who have experience with SQL 2000 have been eagerly waiting for SQL 2005, formerly known as Yukon, with its promise of improved database administration, development and business intelligence features.  This technology is nearing release and this presentation provides an early, detailed overview of some of the changes, improvements and additions to the SQL Server product line.  Some examples of these enhancements include:
- Proactive Caching
- One-click Cubes
- Exposing Web Services from the data tier
- SQL Service Broker
- .NET Framework hosting
- Snapshot isolation
- New SQL Server Management Studio
- Redesign of DTS

In the first part of the presentation Joel will focus on the feature set, with a special focus on features on interest to developers.

In the second part of the presentation Joel will present a case study.  A system was originally developed using SQL 2000, then the system was changed to take advantage of SQL 2005.  This reduced code, while improving performance and functionality.
